Cockroaches Lack Self Confidence

Maybe what makes cockroaches so repulsive is that they scurry away? I've only ever seen them frantically running away from me, like tiny O.J. Simpsons with guilty consciences! So naturally I feel they've probably done something wrong and I'm repulsed.

Everyone knows it's more attractive when people have a certain confidence to stand their ground, while there's something distinctly uncomfortable about being around people who are themselves not confident about their own worth.

So suppose then that cockroaches stopped being such pathetically panicky, diffident creatures and for once grew a spine (figuratively of course -- it'd be disturbing to see a cockroach with an actual spine!). I'm trying to visualize a small cockroach that has the calm self-assured poise of a ladybug, say, the confidence to simply go about his business as before once the light's turned on instead of frantically fleeing the scene like he's guilty of something. I dunno, I think it would go a long way towards repairing the rift between me and the roaches.

If I were their image consultants, I'd point this out to them, encourage them to go for some assertiveness workshops -- as long as I get a waiver indemnifying me against any increased mortality they might experience as a result of their newfound assertiveness! But I think people might be more inclined to relocate rather than kill them if they weren't so damn flighty and shifty-eyed to begin with (figuratively again... imagine a roach with eyes?).

After all, when's the last time you killed a ladybug?
